UNetbootin - Start Linux, or another OS from a USB key

Overview

    UNetbootin is a utility that allows you to write an ISO image on a USB key, and start from it.
    This utility is very useful to test a distribution (LiveCD, for example), or to install a version of Linux without having to burn a CD to install the system.
    It can also run any operating system, simply by downloading an ISO image.

Download and install

    To download UNetbootin, you must go to the author's website, at the following URL:

    Once downloaded, simply give him the rights to run and execute.

    Give rights to the file via the Gnome file manager

      To give the right to run the program using the file manager for Gnome (Nautilus), simply click with the right mouse button on the program, then choose "Properties" menu. In the Properties window that opens, you must check "Allow executing file as program" option.

    Give rights to the file, via terminal

      In a Linux console, you must go to the directory where the program is located, then run the following command: 
      chmod 755 unetbootin-linux-304

    You can now launch it.

Writing an ISO image on a USB key, and make it bootable

    One the program launched, the following window appears:

    Simply choose "DiskImage" option, then select the file from the ISO image of Linux distribution
    Then, you have to choose your USB drive location (Drive Option).
    Click on OK, the program will then create the image on the USB key, and make it bootable.

    You just have to relaunch computer, and choose to boot on USB key.
